If you're looking for a winter getaway, Palm Springs should be on the top of your list. Most of the resorts are clothing optional offering accomodations that range from basic to luxurious. Your dining choices run from burgers and fries to fine dining. Interested in the nightlife? You can choose from piano bars, video bars, leather bars, movies, the theatre, and more! So what are you waiting for? Let's get started.
Accomodations Your choice of accomodations will probably greatly affect how much you enjoy Palm Springs. First, we'll assume you want to stay at a "clothing tolerated" resort. Most of the resorts have nude sun bathing areas and many are totally clothing optional. So leave your swimsuits at home! Atmosphere at the resorts runs from sedate to bath house. You'll probably be able to figure out where each resort falls on this scale by checking their websites. If they are targetting the "upscale gentlemen" don't expect to find guys having sex by the pool. On the other hand if they advertise dungeons, trails, and steamrooms you can probably expect to find things pretty cruisy. But at any resort you can find a "holiday husband" or two or three or more! Furnishings range from garage sale chic to upscale designer. You'll find some resorts with bright southwest color schemes and others with more subdued tones. Most of the resorts are older motels that where built in the 50's and 60's. Many have undergone extensive refurbishing and offer every amenity and comfort you can need. Others may make you shudder when you use the shower. Check out the photos on the websites and ask questions! The guys at Gay Naked Travel are working hard (wink wink) to keep our directory of accomodations up to date. If you've visited one of the resorts we'd love for you to enter some comments in the directory. Or if you know of new resorts please let us know. Resorts can change hands quickly as owners realize that owning a resort doesn't mean a vacation for them. Make reservations early - the best resorts often fill up quickly. We've stayed at these resorts and recommend them. Be sure to tell them the guys at GayNakedTravel.com sent you! Dining You know how you always find yourself going back to the same place over and over? Well, Palm Springs is one of those cities where we have our favorite dining spots that we go to on every visit to Palm Springs. The Red Tomatoe & House of Lamb is one of our favorites. It's located in downtown Cathedral City so it's convenient to resorts in both Palm Springs and Cathedral City. It features a number of italian enrees named after famous movie stars. The "Liz Taylor" is delicious, but have it often enough and you'll be looking like her. Also on the menu is lamb and other home styled dishes that remind me of my grandmother's cooking. Blame It On Midnight is also on the must do list. Don't let it's suburban office building like location scare you away. This is the place to grab a martini and watch the entertainment in the bar area while waiting for your table. The atmosphere is Palm Springs's fun. The food is excellent and runs from Ahi tuna to turkey meatloaf. Shame on the Moon is located just a short distance from the Arenas Road and Warm Sands neighborhoods. We admit it, we're breakfast junkies. Our favorite breakfast spot in the whole world has got to be Elmer's. Elmer's may look like Coco's or Denny's, but the food is so much better. The pancake's are probably the best in the world. The Club House is simply wonderful. Elmer's is conveniently located in Palm Springs. What would a gay destination be without a Hamburger Mary's? Located in downtown Palm Springs on Palm Canyon Drive, Hamburger Mary's features burgers, salads, and other entrees. Convenient parking is located in any of the free parking lots located behind the restaurant. Things To Do Besides poolside fun and great dining, there are many choices of things to do in the Palm Springs area. From gambling to hiking to shopping, Palm Springs offers it all. Let's start with gambling. Indian gaming is legal in California and the tribes have been busy building new Las Vegas style resorts and casinos. In the heart of Palm Springs you find the Agua Caliente Spa Resort Casino. With over 1000 slots and 50 tables, you'll be sure to strike it lucky here if you didn't strike it lucky by the pool. Still have some money left? The outlet mall at Cabazon is huge! It's 3 malls with 100's of factory outlet stores. For more upscale shopping, head on up the road to Palm Desert. El Paseo has art gallerys, jewelery stores, home decor, clothing, and more. If you like to hike, check out Indian Canyons. You'll hike along a serene stream which is a tropical oasis in the desert. Joshua Tree National Park is also nearby for camping and hiking.
No trip to Palm Springs would be complete without going on the aerial tram. The tram will take you to the top of the mountain where you can find snow even though it may be 90 degrees in Palm Springs. In September of 2000 new tram cars were launched. The cabins are the first in North America to rotate 360-degrees during their ascent to the Mountain Station, plus they are the largest of their type in the world. The roomier tramcars feature a larger viewing area with more window space.
